Bermudas and Bahamas
We make here a (too) short summary about these small archipelagos, for sure far at the border of the Known World, yet almost worldwide famous for being miniature paradise for Pirates! Be careful, however, for these islands are not yet completely free of danger or frightening mystery…
Of the mysteries of Bermudas Islands
Only a few things are known about these islands for, though they seem to be a piece of paradise in that world, something lurks here which makes boats avoid them. And nobody knows exactly what… Only the craziest of Pirates, or the most despaired ones, dare sail to the Bermudas and nobody sees them ever again.
The archipelago is composed of three major islands, forming the famous « Triangle », and probably of a multitude of reefs or rocks barely above the level of the waves.
If it would only be a zone of difficult navigation or a sea swirl, as in many other parts of the Known World, it is almost certain that that would nowadays been known and that documents of rescued sailors would be accessible and provide for key information. It can't therefore be something like that and, on the question for that time, popular wisdom is not contradicted by scientific knowledge. What could it be then? A den for sea monsters? One can argue that they would have been seen, in a way or another. Let us make the point plain: boats simply disappear and are never to be seen again. It is as if an invisible veil would fall on and wrap them forever.
The legend of the « Foulin' Touch »!?
One may hear whispers on some evenings, near a bright, warm and vivid fire in the hearth to feel more secure, fearful whispers about the Ghost of a Pirate of legendary fame, Barrent Van der Fokke, and, above all, about his Ship the « Foulin' Touch », the fastest of all seas of the Known World, with her red sails and her hull made of coral, of which the base of operations would be in the center of Bermudas Islands… at the bottom of the sea! Actually, it is probably in the vicinity of the « Triangle » that is recorded the greatest number of apparitions of the terrifying Three-Master surging brutally out of the depths. « Foulin' Touch » is the name of the Ship or maybe a nickname linked to the foul scent bursting in the air when she emerges and sails on the surface - actually some say over the surface would be closer to reality. Her Captain would have no more a human look but there are then different versions: either he would take the shape of a massive human-like creature with a seal head, or his head would seem to have been wrapped by an octopus and his body would be covered with living algae and shellfishes.
Anyway, no matter what might be true or false in those legends, only one fact remains whatsoever: Ships disappear and are never seen again, so never ever would a sane Sailor advise another to head for those islands! Let us hope that our young Pirate friends do not get too curious about the foulin' winds, which sometimes blow over the sea from the North-East, when sailing between Carthagena and Bahamas…
The origin of Bahamas…
These numerous islands, spread along a line running parallely to the coast of Cue-Bar, would be the result, according to Curry-Bean legends, of the toppling over of a part of Cue-Bar into the sea, after the Spirits of the South of the « Great Isle » (thus today's Cue-Bar…) would have defeated the Spirits of the North: so as to make their victory forever sure, the former expelled the latter on the almost completely sunken summits of the North.
You may one day have the patience to listen to a Curry-Bean telling you that thrilling story in full… And the truth about it: Bahamas are in most cases low islands surrounded by great atolls with only a small rocky structure in the center or none at all.

Islands of Tourism and Piracy
For some very understandable reasons such as the beaches of white extra-fine (ioded) sand of Bahamas, backed by coconut and fig trees, knowing practically no shower, their lagoons of a thousand sky blue colours and their very (too?) welcoming Curry-Bean populations, have started developping Tourism at a fast pace on the one hand and of Piracy on the other, well, sometimes somewhat mixing both activities…
Privileged places for a vacation and for a treasure hunt… with organisation! It happened in the beginning that both activities were not so easy to combine harmoniously but hotels and amusements developped with highs and lows until the casinos and other play businesses arrived, allowing for a good combination for the needs of the ones and the others: Pirates hunting fortune or wanting to spoil their bounties, rich Tourists in quest of an adventurous holiday and their ruin, simple people dreaming of wealth and beauties – and well, it is certainly true that the Curry-Bean women there are beautiful but it is also quite so that their parents and husbands are extremely jealously keeping an eye on them.
The conditions and the multiplicity of those islands are such that they are less shady than the island of Tortuga, even if they share a certain number of similarities with the Queen-Island of Pirates, at the same time an infamous no-go (or rather « to-go »?) area and a giant brilliant casino of the whole world of Piracy… Thus, and in general, is it possible for Pirates, who are searching for some rest also, to sail to Bahamas but, whatever the aim of their travel, one had rather something in one's pockets before landing on those islands…
