Got a Nerve! and Fame
General and Skill Group Fame Levels
On the Pirate's Sheet, in the box « Experience & Fame », one can see four Skulls which we did not explained at Character's Creation. Similar rows of four Skulls are also displayed at the top of each Skill Group…
According to the reached Fame Level, each Player circles from none to all of those Skulls along with the progression of his Character.
For the Skulls of the « Experience & Fame » box, use the following table:
Bracket of Fame Total | Number of Skulls to be circled |
---|---|
from 200 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 500 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 1000 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 2000 points on | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
For each Skill Group, except « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged », use the following table:
Bracket of Fame Total | Number of Skulls to be circled |
---|---|
from 32 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 80 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 160 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 320 points on | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
At last, for the « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » Group, use the following table:
Bracket of Fame Total | Number of Skulls to be circled |
---|---|
from 8 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 40 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 160 points | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
from 640 points on | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Use of Fame Levels (having Got a Nerve!)
Generally, that is to say when using a Skill in combination with Got a Nerve!, the Skulls of the Skill Group and of the « Experience & Fame » box add up together. Those of the « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » Group are substracted and are even doubled before that if a Speciality in « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » is particularly related to the action taken by the Character…
The resulting total adds up to the Mastery Level of the Character for the considered action. Thus, if it is a negative number, one applies a Malus and not a Bonus…
Attention ! This is only applicable to actions involving to have Got a Nerve! in combination with a Skill:
- For actions requiring the raw use of Got a Nerve!, one uses only the Skulls of the « Experience & Fame » box from which those of the « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » Group are substracted, possibly after having doubled them if a Speciality in « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » is particularly related to the action taken by the Character;
- For actions requiring directly Skills from the « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » Group, combined or not, the Skulls of the « Experience & Fame » box and those of the « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » are added together;
-
Also, the general Skull rule above (« Experience & Fame » + Corresponding Skill Group – « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged ») applies to some Skills even without their being associated to Got a Nerve! – They are nonetheless often associated to it and are, to help finding them easily, underlined on the Pirate's Sheet:
Rumours & Mess-About Boarding! Command On the Pull Intimidation Rituals & Maledictions
An example with Berthomeu :
One remembers how goot Berthomeu's Got a Nerve!, with a Level of 9. Along with time and Experience, he's become a great Pirate, a Captain Privateer to be more specific. His Command Skill reaches now 7. His total Fame being equal to 270 (one Skull), his Fame for « The Wardroom » to 85 (two Skulls) and his Fame linked to « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » totalling to 12 (one Skull), he can count on a sum of 1 + 2 – 1 = 2 Skulls, hence two supplementary points for his Mastery Level when his Player rolls versus Command. Upon that, following a number of catastrophic Piloting decisions, including quite recently, he acquired a Speciality in « Shipwrecking », a Speciality of the « Better- Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » Group, of course. Thus, when his Player rolls versus Got a Nerve! + Piloting - for instance when he has to avoid heading towards a storm in the middle of the Lesser Curry-Bean Sea - his Mastery Level gets only a Bonus of 1 because the Skulls of the « Better-Off Ridiculed Than Hanged » are then doubled…
